What does life mean to us? How is it measured? By our deeds? Our interactions? Our daily activities? The events that mark our lives?
These are just some of life’s questions that the tenth grade class explored as they worked with Thornton Wilder’s, “Our Town.” After reading several plays, together they chose “Our Town” as their class play. Although written in 1938, they could sense the timeless quality of this play. During rehearsals each of the tenth graders, some of whom had never been in a play before, rose to the challenge of portraying both the depth and the simplicity of their characters. “It was an exciting, profound process to see how the script revealed itself, layer upon layer,” remarked Mary Ann Wells, who directed the play.
