| Justin Elliott's sculpture made during Internship |
During their three-week internships this winter, seniors had a firsthand experience in the work world as they found apprenticeships in Korea, California, Texas, and Boston and its neighborhoods and suburbs. They worked in large corporations, small businesses, non-profit organizations, art studios, production studios and in two cases, their own elementary schools.
The seniors shared some of their experiences during the Senior Internship Presentations on March 2nd. As we listened to their presentations, it was clear that each of them had gained valuable life experience during these three weeks. One of the common threads in the presentations was the realization that although there are certainly times of tediousness in the world of work, if you stick with it, the results can be rewarding. While many seniors chose internships which allowed them to explore a field of interest they already had, some found themselves in situations that were completely new – and possibly opening a door to further explorations.
During the internships, seniors' experiences included making films with new programs, creating a beautiful sculpture, helping an immigrant woman get out of detention and start a new life, helping a young Haitian immigrant with English and math, learning some “Waldorf secrets," learning about high school admissions from the “other side,” and learning that it is important to be “as nice as possible, and friendly” in working with people.
Waldorf High School teacher, Kai Matson , coordinated the Internships.
