Juniors Immersed in Community Service
dog2.jpg

During three weeks in March, the eleventh grade immersed themselves in giving back to the community. The goal of this block was to have students work for a concentrated period of time in a service organization to help instill a greater understanding toward their community, people of all walks of life, and the natural world.

Each eleventh grader was placed in one of several organizations in and around the Boston area: Cape Ann Animal Aid, Brigham House, Mass. Audubon Habitat Nature Conservancy, Art Span – Monroe Center for the Arts, Greater Boston Food Bank, and Wellesley Animal Hospital.

Students helped with food distribution, caring for the elderly, blazing nature trails, guiding children through arts programs, and caring for animals. They learned skills, how to work with people, and the important part that each person plays in an organization. Most of all, as one student reported, “It felt good to be of help.”
