We have some bright new energy in our school this fall as we welcome new teachers and staff: Cedar Oliver and Barret Fabris join our full-time faculty, Evan Tutill is substituting for Kai Matson who is on maternity leave, Ellen Ryan is now our Receptionist and Sue Wellington is our Finance Manager.
Already, all of our new faculty and staff have embraced Waldorf High School with warmth and enthusiasm.
Along with his dynamic enthusiasm for active, hands-on learning, Mr. Oliver brings over 20 years of teaching experience in math, science, and digital arts. Most recently, he taught at High Mowing School, a Waldorf boarding school in New Hampshire. He is also the author or co-author of 17 books on modern advances in math, science, and computer graphics.
In addition to his education in Computer Science and Engineering at University of Maine and University of Michigan, Mr. Oliver has completed his Waldorf teacher training in physics and math at the Waldorf High School Teacher Education Program in Wilton, NH and the Spacial Dynamics In-service Training in Mechanicville, New York.
Mr. Oliver has designed and implemented innovative dynamics-based math, science and digital arts curriculum and has developed and taught numerous math and science courses, as well as digital arts and filmmaking. His interest in all subjects is in understanding patterns of change, the hidden dynamics at work in the world around us and the worlds we create through the arts. Mr. Oliver has also been a coach/leader of Ultimate (“Frisbee”), Circus Arts and Volleyball.
Having recently obtained a Master’s Degree from Drexel University in Global and International Education with a Concentration in Peace Education, Mr. Fabris incorporates a sense of global understanding, rooted in providing students with opportunities to embrace diversity and foster cultural understanding, in all that he teaches.
Mr. Fabris has taught humanities classes to middle and high school students in Virginia, Italy, Austria, and most recently in the Providence, Rhode Island Public School District. He has also proven to be an effective leader in school-wide clubs and events, student advisor, as well as a coach of many sports including soccer, basketball, track and field, and football. While teaching in Genoa, Italy, he was a co-organizer of the 2008 and 2009 GeMUN Model United Nations Conference which brought together over 500 students and teachers from around the world.
In addition to his work at Drexel University, Mr. Fabris has studied at Georgetown University for Certification in Terrorism and Proliferation, and at Loyola University in Baltimore, Maryland where he received his B.A. in History and Secondary Education.
Evan Tutill is no stranger to Waldorf High School as he is an alum of our school (2001) and has returned several times to substitute in various classes.
While at Waldorf High School, Evan was an exchange student in Peru. After graduation from The University of Massachusetts - Amherst, he traveled around Central and South America for seven months on a motorcycle!
Evan began as a Spanish major at the university, but his interest in sciences was awakened and he graduated with a degree in Plant Soil and Insect Sciences, with a minor in Microbiology.
Evan is eager to pursue his interest in teaching and we are grateful that he came back to WHS to do just that! He is teaching Spanish and some Science blocks.
