Seniors are 'Out in the World'

Our seniors are getting a taste of life beyond the school doors for three weeks as they are engaged in their three-week senior internships which take place each spring.

The goal of the senior internships, says Kai Matson, program faculty advisor, is to "enjoy the experience, learn more about what it's like to be working in the world, and how to be more independent." The learning began before the internship started, as seniors considered their interests and pursued possible jobs. "They discovered," says Ms. Matson, "that the steps to finding a job are not easy or always straightforward. They had to call as many places as possible, leave voice mail messages over and over. Through it all, they learned to be confident and persistent."

We look forward to the seniors' return and hearing more about their experiences. Already we have received an article that Kijin Higashibaba wrote for the Newport Daily News (http://www.newburyportnews.com/archivesearch/local_story_060234452.html). Leo Bae returned to the school to film the sophomore play last week, as part of his learning experience at the Belmont Media Center. On Thursday, March 18, all of the seniors will present their work to the student body, and on that same date, at 7:00 pm, they will present to the entire community. Everyone is welcome to attend.
