The regular season admissions process requires prospective students to spend a morning shadowing one of our students. Visits begin in mid-October. Contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org to schedule a visit, or call 617-489-6600. Alternative arrangements for visits can be made for students applying during the summer or who are not currently in the local area.
Student Visit: We ask that visiting students arrive at our school by 8:45 am to check-in with the main office and meet their shadow buddy. Next, students will attend Main lesson, the first class of the day, which begins at 8:50 am and ends at 10:25 am. Visiting students then attend a skill-building or track class, such as American Studies, English or Spanish. Students will also participate in a brief interview with a faculty member during their visit.
Parent Interview: A parent interview with the school director is scheduled when a complete application is received. If the complete application is in hand, parents are scheduled to meet with the school director at 11:30 am. (If not, the parent interview will be scheduled for a later time, after the application is received.) The visit concludes at noon.
Application Deadlines: WHS begins accepting applications in the fall for the following school year. The priority deadline for receiving applications is January 31. Applicants are notified mid-March of the decision. After this date, the school continues to accept applications on a rolling admissions basis throughout the year. When your application is complete, you may expect to receive a decision within two weeks.
Application Forms: Below you will find the application forms which you may download and send to the Admissions Office. The application has a questionnaire for parents to fill out; students complete a series of short-answer questions and are required to submit an essay, which consists of one question which they answer from their imagination, and a drawing of a human being. (The purpose of the essay and drawing is to understand the student on a level one does not discover on a standardized test). WHS will request official transcripts from the applicant's school. Parents are asked to obtain math and English evaluations from the applicant's current teachers and have them mailed directly to the Admissions Office. No entry exam is required. WHS learns much more from the student's own sense of themselves as expressed in the application, the interview, and teacher recommendations.
