is to provide a Waldorf secondary education both to students who are continuing their Waldorf education and to students finding Waldorf education for the first time. Our education supports the integration of the intellectual, social, physical, and spiritual development of our students.
is based on the educational contributions of Rudolf Steiner and his insights into human development and social forms.
is to awaken and foster in our students:
Clear, informed, and heartfelt thinking
Creativity and inquiry
Compassion for and interest in the world and all humanity
A well-founded belief in their individual capacities and the will to use them.
Origins of Waldorf High School of Massachusetts Bay
Born of a desire among the students and families of the Waldorf School of Lexington to continue their Waldorf education beyond eighth grade, our school was founded in 1996. Graduating our first class in 2000, we quickly outgrew our original home and relocated in 2004 from Lexington to Belmont. Now incorporated independently from the elementary school, Waldorf High School of Massachusetts Bay is governed by a faculty Collegium and a board of trustees.
Waldorf High School of Massachusetts Bay is a member of the growing community of more than 1100 Waldorf schools worldwide that share a common philosophy and approach. Over 100 years ago, the method and philosophy of Waldorf education was formed in Stuttgart, Germany. Emil Molt, director of the Waldorf Astoria Company, asked Rudolf Steiner, an Austrian scientist and philosopher, to found a school committed to academic excellence, artistic expression, practical skills, and the healthy emotional and spiritual development of children.
Waldorf High School of Massachusetts Bay operates in a non-discriminatory way, without regard to race, color, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or national or ethnic origin.
Admission is open to all qualified students based upon review of academic transcripts, personal interviews, and faculty recommendations.
