In this block, taught by Ms. Bettencourt, students explored the creative and formative power of the word, the energy of language as rhythm, as movement, as music. In addition to the origins of language and the history of poetic forms, students read, analyzed, and wrote poetry. The block culminated in a coffeehouse style poetry slam-reading. All students read poems they wrote and we were even treated to a reading in Hungarian by our exchange student Dorca. Ms. Bettencourt praised the students' energy, trust, and openness.
